Bharatanatyam is one of India’s most ancient and revered classical dance forms, deeply rooted in Natya Shastra, Abhinaya Darpana, temple traditions, and devotional aesthetics. The B.A. Bharatanatyam programme is designed to preserve this timeless art while nurturing academically sound and professionally skilled performers, teachers, and researchers.
This degree programme offers a systematic blend of theory and practice, enabling students to understand Bharatanatyam not merely as performance, but as a cultural, spiritual, historical, and aesthetic discipline.
Programme Objectives
The B.A. Bharatanatyam course aims to:
- Develop strong foundational and practical skills in Bharatanatyam
- Provide in-depth knowledge of theory, history and aesthetics of Indian dance
- Train students in abhinaya, rhythm, and choreography
- Encourage appreciation of Indian culture, temple traditions, and philosophy
- Prepare learners for careers in performance, teaching and choreography
